nothing like a little sickness.....

observations on this life
Everyone I know is sick... guess we must have passed along a cold that sometimes feels like the flu and now I have a rash coming up on the back of my neck... oh joy! Since I'm already congested, I've decided to stop smoking. Seems like a good time but it's an addiction I've carried with me for most of my adult life. I'm scared to death to give up my security blanket. There are so many ritual moments in smoking. So many times I just do it because. It's a hard habit to break, but I've done it once before and I'm hoping I can do it again. Who has the money to shell out for the most expensive legal drug know to man. In this country, cigarettes and alcohol are the last things that can be taxed at a rate that is insane. I remember buying a carton of cigarettes at the Post Exchange overseas for $1.70. Now it more like $35.00. What a ton of money I can save if I can beat this monster. I'd love to win at this game.... I'd love to have all that money for something that lasts.... I'd love to be able to breathe..... I guess all I can do is the best I can, and even if I fall off the tabacco wagon I can always get back on!

No Body Told Me There'd Be Days Like These.....Strange Day Indeed....

observations on this life
So, I hate that John Lennon thought of it before I did, but it is so appropriate to this day. I'm not a fan of VD day... not because it holds bad memories of the times I didn't get whatever it is you are supposed to get on the 14th of February every year. I don't like the holiday because it is cheap "make up sex". Expressions of love should be given freely every day of the year...

It was fun to give valentine's when I was a kid, but even then it was a contest. It was about who had the grooviest crepe paper coverd shoe box, or who got the most, or the biggest. I still give them to my friends. It's cool that it is no longer a contest. It's cool that it's not the only time I do something silly and sweet for them, or with them. This year it's hello kitty...

I try very hard to fight tradition when it makes no sense, and today is one of the days I split from the heard and go off and graze on my own. A better token to give the people you love is your time, and your support and your energy. So, to all the people I love, and to everyone who reads this, I Love You.... just because.

these wars aren't about freedom and Democracy

observations on this life

Why is it that the wars in Iraq and Afganistan are being pushed on the Amerikan public as an effort to protect our freedom and that old stand by of bringing Democracy to the masses? What freedoms do we have left? Big Brother is curling up at the foot of every bed, in every house, in every state in the country. These illegal military actions have nothing to do with freedom, these actions are about making sure that the Amerikan government anhilates any foreign government that refuses to bow to their muscle. There are no weapons of mass distruction, Osama can't be found, and terrorism by foreign nationals against the administration (by way of killling innocent civilians) is to be expected when Dubya and his henchmen won't keep their respective noses out of the internal affairs in other countires. I wouldn't say the Amerikan people were asking for it on September 11th, but it was to be expected, and I'm surprised it hasn't happened again. If any of us cares about the freedoms guaranteed in the Constutition and the Bill of Rights it might be time to speak up and speak out. We need to be protected from being the ones who take it on the chin for Dubya. We need to to be smart and vote very differently in four years. Come on people.... wake up. The Amerikan administration is going to get a lot more people killed in the name of so called "freedom" for the next four years. ACT UP, FIGHT BACK!

dark, rainy, cold...

observations on this life

It's one of those days in Oregon when I just want to stay in bed with a book by one of my favorite authors, Anthony Bourdain. Wheather the book is about food, or a mystery I can't put it down. I like his clean, no bullshit style of writing.... he's a rough around the edges kind of guy and it shows up on the pages. Whats' up with people who write long flowery sentences that don't add anything to the point of what they are trying to say..... a few powerful words can say a bunch.... and who knew that you could get a can of hot coffee out of vending machine in a Toyko hotel? If you're a foodie at all, you should read it. If you like to travel to exotic places you should read it.... all the funny stuff people outside this country put in their mouth.... the though of eating some of it, like a still beating cobra's heart, makes me want to yak! Not much of a snake person, can you tell?

Want to buy the books... log on to www.campusi.com for the best deals on the web..... fucking fantastic!
